Qatar Chamber chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani inaugurated yesterday the Al Warkaa-Rankoussi Factory located inside the ‘Small & Medium Enterprises Zone’.

The factory is a full Qatari investment that is financed by Qatar Development Bank (QDB) with the aim to provide the local market with its requirements from textile, furniture, fabrics, and masks. The inauguration ceremony, which was held in adherence with Covid-19 precautionary measures, was also attended by Sheikh Jassim bin Ahmed bin Khalifa al-Thani, Sheikh Ali bin Jassim bin Ahmed bin Khalifa al-Thani, the factory’s founder and chairman, and general manager Wael Rankoussi, as well as a number of businessmen. Sheikh Khalifa and other guests toured the factory and were briefed on its various sections and production processes. He assured Qatar Chamber’s constant support for SMEs and that it will encourage Qatari businessmen to invest in this vital sector, as well as in other industries that are necessary to the local market. On the level of industrial development, Sheikh Khalifa noted that Qatar’s SME sector witnessed a remarkable development in the recent years. He said Qatar’s industry sector grew by 6% in 2020. There are 927 factories in the country with a total investment volume worth QR263bn.

The contribution of the industrial sector to Qatar’s GDP increased from 7.3% in 2020 to 8.7% in H1 of 2021, which confirms the success of the state’s economic diversification strategy, Sheikh Khalifa added.

Sheikh Ali said Al Warkaa-Rankoussi was established in partnership with Rankoussi Group for Trading and Industry with the aim to produce non-woven fabrics (dacron), which is the primary material that is used in many industries, such as furniture, mattresses, filters, and pillows.

“It is the only factory in Qatar that manufactures these products,” Sheikh Ali stressed. He also noted that the factory manufactures all home furnishings, all types of curtains, blankets, hotel supplies, facial masks, and water filters.

Sheikh Ali thanked QDB for providing financial support for the factory and Qatar Chamber for opening the factory, and for providing support to the local industry. It is worth mentioning that Rankoussi Group is one of the largest leading companies in the field of industry and trade. It is active in Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, and Canada.
